MoMA PS1 in New York is launching today a new amazing structure designed by The Living ‘s David Benjamin, these mirroring towers are the winning installation 2014 of Young Architects Program (YAP), is called “Hy-Fi” and is constructed with Ecovative living bricks and 3M Specular Film.
The implementation of 3M’s highly reflective films creates a mirrored effect for a striking visual on the outside of the tower, while diverting and bouncing light through the inside to illuminate the space. The combination of these materials accomplishes The Living’s original project goal: to create a structure with materials that require as little waste, energy, and carbon emissions as possible, while delivering a thought-provoking and inviting space for visitors.
According to 3M Business Development Manager, George Levendusky, “The YAP exhibition is an opportunity to expand sustainable thinking and cross-pollinate ideas between architecture, design, science and technology. We were thrilled to collaborate with The Living to use our materials in new ways that we believe will have far-reaching effects. At 3M, we are committed to fostering just this kind of innovative thinking and exploration.”
