The exhibition Maison & Objet in Paris opens the new “design exhibiting year” and offers the first suggestion on the new 2014 Interior Design trends. More than 3000 brands exhibited in 130,000 sqm. “Elsewhere” is the year’s Inspiration: an invitation to distant inner journeys, a desire to get away and a wish for openness to the world and avventure.
Materials trends.
The halls devoted to design and complements emphasize the use of natural materials: plenty of wood in all grains, cork (light and dark), marble and stones, a lot of glass and metal, mostly copper and the burnished ones.
Color trends.
The prevailing colours for walls and furniture are the cold shades of grey and dove grey, a palette of powdery and desaturated colors: soft blue, sage, face powder, several earth tones, plenty of green and a few hints of bright yellow, lobster pink and bordeaux. Last year pastel shades were replaced with natural palettes. Also resins and more technical materials follow these trends.
Designer of the year 2014: Tom Dixton.
Some of the new trends are expressed by Tom Dixon, a self-taught, eclectic and passionate designer, elected by Maison & Objet: Designer of the year 2014.
Philippe Nigro Designer now! design à vivre 2014.
The second designer of the year, ellected by now!, is Philippe Nigro. The motivation is “He relishes interpreting lines and generates movement seemingly without touching a design’s form. Though the man himself keeps a low profile, his work has potent presence”.
