Premiere of Fidelio. Did you notice the Tshirt Jaquino wearing during the duet with Marzelline in the first act? It says WOW! in large letters! We are not sponsors of the Teatro alla Scala – we’d love to! – But it’s fun and it makes us very happy “being there” in this event really WOW!
December 7th, 2014: premiere of Fidelio at the Teatro alla Scala in Milan. 12 deserver minutes of applause to Fidelio, the Beethoven’s opera conducted by Daniel Barenboim, to the sublime voices – especially to Leonore Anja Kampe – to the fascinating direction by Deborah Warner that highlights the relevance and the universal character of this work, not a melodrama but a private and political history; more than a love story, it is the tale of a strong and in love woman; a tale of injustice that refer to dramatic events of our current days.
The environment is not a stereotypical prison, but kind of a disused factory, a bleak space, a place of general marginalization. Jeans, sweatshirt, Tshirt (WOW!) are the costumes; red waving flags, pictorial quotations and light that transforms the scene are the universal metaphors of heroic actions driven by the desire for justice.
Another curious alarming detail: do you also think the office of the prison officer Rocco, looks the “new” industrial and raw style of some products recently presented at Orgatec?
