Design & handicraft: Svetlana Kuliskova’s eco-textile art.

Svetlana Kuliskova is a young Czech eco-visual artist, polyhedral and nomad, who created her own Way Of Working by using ancient technologies and fiber recovery. We met Svetlana at Cernobbio on the occasion of Proposte 2013 (World Preview of Furnishing Fabrics) where was invited to show a number of her works in the Central Hall.

She started to create modern tapestries based on Art Protis, a specific copyrighted technology (she worked on a large tapestry for the 1990 EXPO in Osaka). In design sector, with “Cuore Incorporeo” (incorporeal heart), light-paintings made by plexiglas and wool, she was one of the 15 finalists competing for the international Targetti Light Art Award in 2008, shortlisted from 3000 entries. In recent years, her attention has turned to the reuse of existing textile materials to test their as-yet unexpressed potential as well as to take a more environmentally friendly approach.

Today her strengths lie in eco-sustainability, old-fashioned craftsmanship and a return to simple values that she sees as a new luxury. She endeavours to conserve the Art Protis technology, which was spawned in the Czech Republic in the ’50s and which she pursues through her creativity and her contact with Italian culture in the fashion and design field.
