
In the wake of the fervent cultural activity of the Lombard capital, the 9th edition of the Milan Design Film Festival, which will take place from 21 to 24 October, is fully entered.
The title “Reset” chosen by the curator and founder of MDFF Silvia Robertazzi and by the co-curator Porzia Bergamasco is evocative, indicating the collective need for a new beginning.
It will be a phygital edition, with screenings and face-to-face meetings (in various locations) together with a schedule of films in streaming on the MDFF website (in original languages).
Over 50 titles are scheduled, including documentaries, investigations and biopics, fiction and animated films, divided into six categories:
Architecture, Art Of Thinking, Biography, Design, Sustainability, Urban Life.
Guest curators of the 9th edition are the architects Gianandrea Barreca and Giovanni La Varra, of the Barreca & La Varra studio in Milan, who are dedicated to the Ciak in Italy section. Foreign directors in the Italian landscape with a selection of titles that reflect on the ways in which various foreign directors have looked at the Italian landscape as the ideal background for creating stories.
While the Bloom section, which investigates the relationship between humans and Nature, is entrusted to the designer duo Formafantasma with a film review they have entitled “I, You and It: Stories of entanglement between species”.
The program, not yet final, includes:
Monday 18 October (by invitation only) world premiere of the film The importance of being an architect (by Giorgio Ferrero and Federico Biasin, MyBossWas production, 60 ‘, Italy, 2021) which focuses on the reflection on the role of architecture in contemporary society through the eyes of Antonio Citterio at the Teatro della Triennale di Milano; followed by a talk moderated by Gianni Canova with the architects Citterio, Viel and the directors.
Thursday 21 October, 6.30 pm official opening with welcome by Silvia Robertazzi (MDFF founder and co-curator) | Ciak in Italy section. Foreign directors in the Italian landscape + 2nd screening of The importance of being an architect.
Friday 22 October, 5.30 pm, for the Bloom section, the guest curators Formafantasma present the film review I, You and It: Stories of entanglement between species.
Saturday 23 October, from 10 to 17.30, day dedicated to architects with projections and talks with presentation of the Open Letter initiative, promoter of public mobilization “The city changes, let’s change the cities” on urban development and the prevention and care of the territory
Sunday 24 October, 6.30 pm, Afa by Grand Seiko Award with award ceremony and screening of the winning films.
