It is signed by Tadao Ando the Teatrino: a new location dedicated to conferences, screenings, and concerts, the third step of François Pinault’s cultural project in Venice.
After 40 years in a state of neglect and less than one year of restoration works the Teatrino opens its doors to the public in conjunction with the opening of the exhibition Prima Materia at Punta della Dogana and puts an emphasis on the moving image.
The new restoration maintains the spirit of architectural continuity of the preceding renovations, a pure an minimal shell and an interior design marked by an ice-white, neutral colour and angular volumes, the distinctive features of the Pritzker Tadao Ando, who has already followed the restoration works of Palazzo Grassi (2006) and Punta della Dogana (2009). With a 1,000 square-meter surface, the Teatrino is equipped with an auditorium of 225 seats with top level acoustic performances, two foyers, and spaces for technical equipment (boxes, equipment for stage management and simultaneous translation). Palazzo Grassi – Punta della Dogana strengthens its implementation within the artistic and cultural life of Venice thanks to the Teatrino, a new location dedicated to conferences, talks, screenings, and concerts.
