“It is while playing that human being expresses his intelligence at best.” said Isao Hosoe who created with Loccioni the concept Play Factory, selected by ADI Index in 2011.
Eight years later ADI Index has selected “Awareness Toy“, another adult game designed by Fabio Guaricci, student of the great Japanese Master.
How playing is important in the workplace?
We ask this question to Lucia Berdini, Laughter & Play Coach, who actually founded a group called Playfactory.
It is clear that this vision was started by Isao Hosoe, firmly convinced that it needs to encourage and promote a different working culture based on creativity and play.
The Play Factory research developed by Isao Hosoe with Lorenzo de Bartolomeis and Masaya Hashimoto, in collaboration with Loccioni, expresses the company thinking through the spaces and the moments of the game in terms of creativity, innovation, growth.
Fabio Guaricci is also inspired by the same concepts. He is a designer with a Humanist approach to the project, founder of Toy Design, a design studio for toys and educational products.
He was selected by ADI Index 2019 (“Social Design” category) for his “Awareness Toys” collection.
“The adult, unlike the child, has only a few opportunities to play and, perhaps for this reason he tends to decrease his skills in discovering, in accepting it, in living a fully creative life searching for its own balance “explains Guaricci.

Playing gives meaning to relationships and helps to find effective solutions.
“Playing is a primary biological need. When we grow up the need to play takes different forms: sport, theater, dance, song. But some people forget it and live a rat race, obsessed with performances and dominated by playphobia.
The first industrial revolution was based on a mechanistic view of work: employees are gears and any kind of joy is banned.
Today the culture is changing, the organizations are moving towards an eco-systemic and human centered logic and the themes of play, fun and lightness are gaining the prominent place they deserve.
So workspaces become places of meeting, of relationship. Today you can have fun even in the office, you can celebrate the goals together with your team, you can laugh and go back to play.
We are ready for a revolution in corporate culture, because playing is capable of bringing motivation, cooperation and creativity to the highest levels. It allows us move effortlessly from reactive to responsive; to grow as individuals.
The chemistry unleashed by playing is very similar to that of happiness.
When we play we naturally connect with others, lower barriers, nurture a sense of belonging to the group and find confidence in others.
Playing -in the family and in organizations- gives meaning to relationships and helps us to find effective, creative and sustainable solutions”.
