“Following the acts of vandalism perpetrated in the Notre-Dame du Haut Chapel at Ronchamp, the Le Corbusier Foundation expresses its dismay at the consequences of these acts and at the irreversible damage they have caused to Le Corbusier’s work.
The Foundation deplores the fact that no specific security measures have been taken to protect the site, and in particular to protect one of its most emblematic and fragile features.
It draws the attention of the owners and public authorities to the need to give more effective protection to our 20th century heritage, and in particular to the work of Le Corbusier.
In view of the extremely poor condition of the chapel at the present time, and in addition to the urgent measures needed to ensure the security both of the site and the building, it calls for measures to ensure long term conservation of the chapel and asks that restoration work be undertaken without delay”.
